Why serious breeders are joining the BBA.
Stable nerves, a clear head and sound judgement. A Boerboel is only as good as its character, so character is what we evaluate first and compromise on last.
Conformation alone is not enough. Our highest level, the Black Premium pedigree with the W mark, is reserved for dogs that pass a working test under real pressure.
Every registered dog has a digital pedigree showing its certification level and the W marks in its lineage, verifiable online anywhere in the world.

01 / THE APPROACH
The Boerboel was bred to work: to guard the homestead, to protect the family and to think under pressure. Over the years, breeding for size, colour and the show ring has pushed that purpose aside. The BBA exists to bring it back to the centre.
We register, evaluate and certify Boerboels with one standard: sound temperament, functional structure and proven working ability, recorded on the pedigree, generation after generation.
Our breeding standardWHY THE BBA EXISTS

The Boerboel is one of the most capable guardian breeds in the world. As its popularity grew, so did the number of dogs bred for size, colour and looks instead of character and structure. Much of what made the breed has been lost along the way.
A Boerboel without stable nerves is not a guardian. A Boerboel without functional structure cannot do the job it was bred for. Breed improvement means recovering both.
The Boerboel Breeders Association is an independent registry created by breeders who wanted a different kind of association: one that stands with the people who actually breed the dogs, gives them honest tools to select, and records what each dog has really proven.
Colour is never a fault at the BBA. Black and tan, chocolate, blue and other less common colours are welcome. A puppy out of a proven sire and a proven dam is judged on the same thing as any other: temperament, structure and work. Nothing else.
The BBA is open to Boerboel breeders worldwide. Registration, pedigrees and certification are managed online in the members’ registry.
THE CERTIFICATION LEVELS
Every BBA dog carries its certification level on the pedigree, so breeders can see at a glance what a dog has proven.

Registered. The dog is identified, microchipped and registered with a verifiable pedigree.
Approved for breeding. The dog has passed a conformation evaluation and a basic temperament assessment, and is approved as breeding stock.
Premium, W mark. Approved for breeding and passed the BBA working test: courage, active defence of the handler or territory, and stability with strangers when there is no threat. Premium dogs carry a W next to their name on every pedigree where they appear.
The W is how the BBA tracks proven working lines. When a puppy’s sire, grandsire and great-grandsire all carry the W, a breeder knows that line has been tested for work, not just registered. The levels are not titles. They are a selection tool for breeders.

Watch on YouTubeTHE REGISTRY
Member breeders manage their kennel online. They register litters, and every puppy is linked automatically to its sire and dam, with a four-generation pedigree ready to download and print.
Each certificate carries a QR code. Anyone can scan it and confirm the dog, its registration number, its certification level and the W marks in its lineage on the public verification page.
The registry already holds more than sixty thousand Boerboels in its reference database, so ancestors from other registries appear in the pedigrees of the dogs we register.

03 / FOUNDED BY BREEDERS
Founded in Portugal. Open to the world.
An association built by people who live, train and breed the Boerboel.
The Boerboel Breeders Association is a legally registered association, founded in Portugal and open to breeders worldwide. It was created by breeders who felt that existing structures did not serve the people doing the work.
The BBA does not compete with other registries, and members are free to keep their existing papers. What the BBA adds is what breeders need most: an honest evaluation of temperament, structure and working ability, recorded on every pedigree, and an association that stands with its breeders.
About the BBA
MEMBERSHIP
BBA membership is for breeders who want their dogs judged on what matters and who want an association on their side. Each member kennel gets its own affix, its own login and full access to the registry.
Members register litters online, download digital pedigrees and present their dogs for conformation, temperament and working evaluations.
Membership is yearly per kennel, with a registration fee per puppy. Current fees are listed on the Membership page. No hidden costs, and no obligation to stop using other registries.
Admission is selective. We want breeders who share the standard: character first, structure that works and full transparency about every dog.
